The Golden Sausage / Die Goldwurst
Reinhold Bidner
2019, Austria, 1’10”

Created for an exhibition in Linz Upper Austria, which played with the myth that Upper Austria once was an El Dorado, a country of unbelievable wealth, in which gold was commonplace. -> How did it come from the former wealth of El Dorado, which also promoted and inspired art, to the current poverty with which the artists, apparently so important for society, are compensated for their achievements? The work The Goldwurst is looking for a plausible and comprehensible explanation. It succeeds in doing this in a foreseeable painful and humiliating way: the once golden sausage falls by the wayside and turns into hard bread.

Kako je od nekdanjega bogastva El Dorada, ki je spodbujalo in navdihovalo tudi umetnost, prišlo do sedanje revščine, s katero so umetniki, očitno tako pomembni za družbo, nagrajeni za svoje dosežke?
